Kinloss,RAF Kinloss

Kinloss (Gaelic: Cinn Lois) is a village in Moray, Scotland. It is located near the shore of Findhorn Bay, around 3 miles (5km) from Findhorn and 2.5 miles (4km) from Forres. RAF Kinloss is located northeast of the village and employs 2,000 people.
The Cistercian Kinloss Abbey was created in 1150 by King David. Under abbot Robert Reid the abbey became a centre of academic excellence in the 1530s. It now lies almost completely ruined.


RAF Kinloss (IATA: FSS, ICAO: EGQK) is a Royal Air Force station near Kinloss, on the Moray Firth in the north of Scotland. The station was until recently home to all of the Nimrod MR2 fleet in the Royal Air Force. In December 2009, the MOD announced the premature retirement of the MR2 version by March 2010 and delays to the MRA4 to 2012. In October 2010, it was announced that the MRA4 was cancelled and the base will close as an RAF station as part of the Strategic Defence and Security Review.
Numbers 120 and 201 squadrons, plus 42(R) squadron (the Operational Conversion Unit),formerly equipped with the Nimrod MR2, now with the MRA4 version, are based at Kinloss.
The station is also home to No. 325 Expeditionary Air Wing. No 663 Volunteer Gliding School) VGS operating the Vigilant T1 and the Moray Flying Club are also based at RAF Kinloss.
